Workshops and Classes

The importance of process over product is a philosophy I bring into my role as a creative facilitator. There is often frustration surrounding the learning of a new skill, coupled with the feeling of 'it's not good enough' when the end result doesn't match expectations. When students focus on the making - the tactile experience, the mess, and the challenge - they are more likely to create interesting and well-considered pieces.

I run multiple pottery classes for adults and children from my home studio in Eshowe, and I travel to Mtunzini twice a month to offer creative pottery classes. Additionally, I work part-time at Holy Childhood School in Eshowe, where I teach the creative arts component of their STEAM program to grades 4 through 7. STEAM is an incredibly valuable philosophy and teaching practice that shows students how creativity extends beyond picking up a pencil or a ball of clay. It encompasses expression, visual literacy, and design, stretching the thinking process to include maths and technology. It’s essential for young creatives to grasp that whatever they think, they can illustrate and plan, and whatever they can plan, they can make or do.
